We fished a mini private tournament that host 16 anglers by 8 boats for a 50 pound test tournament. The event was put together by Tim Hicks on boat Illusions. The marlin bite came on for the 3 day event and the boats saw good numbers of fish. On the first day of the tournament we had a nice fish come to the short bait that was over 500 pounds. It was a good match for the 50 pound test. After a 20 minute fight we pulled the hook. We saw another smaller fish that didn’t bite and missed a spearfish. On the second day we missed 2 blues. We caught a striped marlin about 120 pounds on the third day of the tournament. Late in the afternoon we had a fish over 300 pounds jumping all over the ocean taking 300 yards of line and it came off. With 5 minutes to go we released a fish 250 pounds that was a rascal fish jumping all over on the leader. A fun fish that finished the event well for us. We sure had a bad case of butterfingers this week. The highlight of the tournament was the Illusions releasing a 800 pound plus fish on 50 after a 2 hour fight.
