Day five of the TART we had Brent. Brent and I had a great last day last year locking up first place in the tournament. He needed 2 fish to win and I think we caught 3. We hoped going into the last day that we could catch another fish to stay ahead or hang on with what we had. I knew McGrew would be inspired on the last day having Ken aboard so we really had to bring it. at 9:00 They tagged a fish that put them in close reach. All they needed was one more to go ahead. We found current to the north and headed to the grounds that looked unreal. Bait and birds covered the ledge. We changed over to bait to fight it out to he end. At 1:00 the call we dreaded came in on the radio that Ken was hooked up and tagged the go ahead fish. Now we really had to catch one. We couldn’t keep a bait in the water due to shark bites, marlin bites and tired baits. At 3:00 the go ahead fish came to us. It was all over the bait and I fed it to him like I have so many times before. We all sat and waited as the drop back came tight. I struck the fish. Got ’em on. I picked up the mike to call it in and the hook pulled. Down the hatch, in the mouth and it came out? What? unreal. We ran in and got a great last bait. At 5 minutes to 4:00 a fish we needed came up feeding out of reach. I tried to get the bait there but time ran out. We ended up second. My comment at the end of this is I would rather get 6 and get 2nd than catch 1 to win. Great tournament again this year!
