Tracy Epstein has been doing varnish with his dad Steve and I for years now and is going to be doing a bunch of the varnish work on this job. He has gotten very good with the prep and the brushing. We all will be helping but for the majority of this job but he will be in charge. We got all of the varnish stripped and now we are working on sanding it to get it ready for stain and varnish. The varnish was in fair shape but had never been stripped in 10 years. It was so thick in some spots it was milky. It had broken out in a bunch of spots and been saved. The mahogany is good to stain lightly and doing all of the varnish at the same time help to get a uniform color. It will look too dark at the start but as the sun does her thing on it the wood will drink in the stain and it will season it self in a few months. We are trying to get a few coats on it so we can start painting the house after the windows go in next week.
