The weather had been snotty for a few days, and we were unable to fish up north where we’d been having good luck. On this sunny Monday morning the wind finally backed off and let us get to the fishing grounds where we’d been dying to get to most of last week. On our very first pass up the ledge an estimated 500 pound blue ate our Polukai caveman lure on the long rigger. Mark being such curtious guy let his friend take the first fish in the chair. After 15 minutes of airiel antics we released our first blue of the day. Within moments of getting the lures set back up we had another blue grab the same lure only to come un-buttoned shortly after the strike. Getting set back up a shortnose spearfish which we had been searching for all last week grabbed the stinger but that too also came un-hooked. Trolling to the backside of the grounds we kept finding piles of bait in tight on the ledge, and not before long a big stripped marlin piled on our longest lure. Mark took this fish and released his first ever billfish, an estimated 100 plus pound stripy. After getting set back up it didn’t take long before another blue, this time in the 250 pound range to grab one of our lures. After releasing this fish we figured the day couldn’t get any better but yet again our polukai caveman exploded with yet another blue marlin in the 150 pound size. We ended our day around 12:30 catching three blues and a big stripped marlin. If only everyday had this much action.
We normally try and get as many pictures as we can but we forgot the camera down stairs for most of the morning. We did get a few shots but not enough in regards to the catch.
