Tsunami Day

Tsunami Day was actually Tsunami Night. Here you see Travis towing the forty back in in the morning. We found out at 9:30 at night that we had a tsunami headed our way after the action seen in Japan earlier in the day. The fleet here in Kona went to the harbor to get the boats out of the harbor. My problem was that I had 3 boats to move and one of me. Thankfully Travis Ota and Brian Balancio helped me move the boats out. Brian took the forty Gamefisherman and Travis and I took the 37 Merritt and Towed the 40 express Gamefisherman that was not able to be run because of work that was being done to it. We had good calm conditions out in front of the harbor where boats with their lights on turned the ocean into a city at sea. We waited until the the big serge came into the harbor. The harbor water level dropped very low and filled back up full. It came up very high but didn’t take any of the dock boxes with it. Over all we were very lucky The only damage was from boats that were left in the harbor through the serge. after surges really came in and messed up boats that came in right after the first surge. The early boats the tied up were fine. When the other boats around them came in and the surges started it made it a real challenge to get the boats in safe. The fleet really worked together and we came out of it very well. Places in town and down the coast line didn’t fare to well. Our prayers go out to japan and all those who were effected by the Tsunami.

Here comes the Rain

The rains are here. After a severe drought we finally are getting some rain. The leases look good again. It is the first time I am not grumbling for getting wet out there. The animals are going to be ok now. It is green again finally! Hunting has been tough because it is so green the animals patterns have changed and they are hard to see.

Jamie Spears Gets em

Jamie Spears and his wife Ann came to visit us again this year. Jamie and good friend Kent Kelly came to hunt and fish with us a couple years ago. They invited Pat Fisher of Hawaii Safaris and I to hunt at Kent’s ranch for elk and we both got real nice bulls. It was good to see Jamie again and was good he timed the fishing right. We caught this nice ahi in the south school after we tagged this spearfish. It was nice of him to sit still. The next shot is funny of him jumping in the water.

Day Two of Fishing for Spearfish
