On this Independence Day I am proud to be an American and lucky to be from Kona Hawaii. The base I learned here in Kona has made me the fisherman today. My tradition for the last 25 plus years has been to be in The World Cup Tournament. For the first time in my career I will watch from the sideline. This makes me more humble and appreciative than ever to all my anglers that have put their trust in us all these years. In less than an hour my friends and peers will be fishing in one of the most exciting events of the year in a top contending destination like Kona Hawaii. Great tournament with the Gains Family. Finished in 2nd Place over all won the day 3 daily top junior angler and top woman angler. The trophies and merchandise given were top notch. Thanks goes out to Joe and Ruth for putting together the tournament.

Happy Fathers Day– day 3 of the Hawaiian Billfish Series Shootout. Started out with a double ahi this morning and caught them both. Great start to a great Fathers Day for Rich Gains and his Daughters.

Day 2 of the Hawaiian Billfish Series Kona shootout. We had a great day of fishing just had a tough time putting points on the board. Ended up 0-2 on Ahi 2-4 on Spearfish and pulled the hook on a wild blue that we barely didn’t get the tag in after we had him on the leader 4 times. Fun day with enough points to gets us in position for the finish tomorrow.

1st day of the shootout Robert that joined us on Rich Gains team caught this ahi that missed qualifying by 2 pounds at 98. Had a good start missing a couple spears and had a small blue to the chair and pulled the hook. The blind ahi bite good today most boats caught a ahi today trolling.

Visited the Tsukiji Fish market to see the tuna auction. The action and excitement of the area was unreal. For a life long fisherman like me it was really cool to see how the Japanese value the fish and their quality. I saw tuna that were on the market floor that traveled thousands of miles that looked like I caught them on the Northern Lights yesterday. Been a great trip to my family’s home land with my whole family. Look forward to getting home and getting back on the water.
