I had heard the marlin were here and I guess they are. Arnesto Koo of Panama came over from Maui and stayed at our vacation rental for the night before his trip so we could get a early start. Oskie Rice came in to filling for Mat while he is gone. He and I have fished a lot together over the years so it felt natural to fish together for the first time in a long time. It was great to hear of the big fish Oskie has caught in his travels while we waited for the big one. We also talked about old times fishing with each other and times we fished with Oskie’s dad McGrew and grandpa Freddy. About lunch time there wasn’t much time to talk. We saw a 180 pound blue come in on the short teaser. I teased him in and he didn’t drop back to the lures. We trolled waiting for the bite on that one and a big one came up on the long rigger. It pushed water all over but didn’t bite. We raised 2 that didn’t bite I couldn’t believe it. We trolled south to Milolii and got a bite on the long rigger. We jumped him off. O for 3. We trolled south with no bites. We came back to the spot we had the last bite. Right on the spot we raised a fish on the blue tube. It was all over it and didn’t get hooked. 2 more came up and we had 3 up at the same time. Got 2 out of 3 a 200 and a 110. We turned around and got bit again and caught the fish about 140. We got the lures out and got bit again and jumped the fish off after 4 wild jumps. We got set up and on our next pass on the spot the Polu Kai tube raised its 5th fish of the day. We got that one stuck and got that one which was the biggest of the day about 350. It stuck its head up at the end and I got a shot of it. We ran towards home for an hour and set out around the trail run and trolled to the harbor with no more bites. Great to be back.
